Operation Hunter is a campaign to fund and catalyze research toward a cure for Hunter syndrome (MPS II). This page lays out how the work is organized, where donations go, and how we hold ourselves accountable — so a gift is an informed one.
Operation Hunter does not perform medicine and does not run a laboratory. We do the coordination work that helps qualified teams move faster: screening research grants, scouting publicly-published investigators, synthesizing the scientific literature into a cited library, and drafting the legal and tax structure for a licensed attorney and CPA to review. Any science happens only inside qualified institutions, under U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) oversight.
Our aim is to back every credible scientific path toward a cure — not just one — and to prioritize approaches that can reach the brain, where this disease does its cruelest work. Hunter syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis type II) is a rare, X-linked condition caused by a shortage of the enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase, leading to a progressive buildup of complex sugars in the body's cells — per MedlinePlus Genetics (U.S. National Library of Medicine). Operation Hunter supports multiple credible scientific routes toward a cure, with a priority on therapies that can cross the blood–brain barrier. One direction we find promising — an encapsulated-cell / iPSC-gene-corrected approach to delivering the IDS enzyme — is a proposed research direction only. It is not approved, not human-tested, and not proven, and it is not available as a treatment.
